Ironbound Azzurri won their 5th Tournament in 5 tries of the U11 year, despite the fact weather prevented some of the games from being complete.
Azzurri beat Hempstead LI 6-0 on Saturday and beat the defending champion Capital Area Capa Boys from Harrisburg PA 4-1 on Sunday in what amounted to be the Championship Final.

U11 Ironbound Azzurri captured their 2nd major tournament championship this spring (and 4th title as U11’s) winning the Ironbound Spring Warm-Up.  Azzurri put on a total team effort and great display of soccer.

The defense allowed the fewest amount of goals in the U11 bracket and was led by Antonio Greene, Justin Behnke, Ramsey Little, Frankie Martingale, Julian Barba, Jun Harrigan and Brian Kelly.

The offense scored more goals than any team in the U11 bracket and was led by Brent Llewellyn, Jules Anderson, Aziel Jackson, Brandon Levy, Balthazar Saunders, Matthew Mariscal, Giancarlo Guacci and Nico Rosamilia.

Ironbound Azzurri won their 3rd championship trophy as U11’s by winning the Manhattan SC Kick-Off Classic.  This is the #1 Ranked NY Tournament by Got Soccer, and the competition was filled with many of the top academies and clubs in the region.

Ironbound Azzurri opened with a 2-1 win over Farmingdale SC Fury, the top team in Nassau County, LI.

Then came a 6-0 win over the Brooklyn Italians.

Group played ended win a 5-0 win over NJX Inter to make the Azzurri the only undefeated and untied team in preliminary play.

The championship match was against Met Oval’s Pre-Academy team.  Ironbound Azzurri trailed 1-0 at the half, but showed tremendous heart, determination and great soccer in the 2nd half to win the title 2-1.  Brent Llewellyn tied the game for Azzurri early in the 2nd half with another of his many big goals over the weekend.  Ironbound continued to press for the winner and were awarded a PK with 10 minutes to go in the game.  Jules Anderson converted the kick and clinched the championship for Azzurri.  It was a tremendous weekend that saw Azzurri score more than twice as many goals as any other team, and allow the fewest goals of anyone in the tournament.

 

Ironbound Azzurri won the Brooklyn Italians Columbus Cup in the U11 Elite Division

Ironbound Azzurri won the Brooklyn Italians Columbus Cup in the U11 Elite Division.  There were 16 of the top Academy and Club Teams in the U11 Elite division from the tri-state area.  This was the best competition we’ve ever faced in any one tournament.  Azzurri won their group by beating NY Hota Bavarians Academy 3-0, Met Oval Academy 4-1 and Downtown United SC 4-1.  Azzurri played JIGS Academy in the semi-finals and won 2-1, and then beat Silver Lake SC 2-1 in the Championship.  Jules Anderson scored the first goal in the Championship off a pass from Nico Rosamilia, and Anderson scored the game winner off a pass from Aziel Jackson with 10 seconds remaining in regulation.  Brent Llewellyn, Brandon Levy, Antonio Green, and Balthazar Saunders also scored goals in the tournament.  Thomas Sullivan was excellent in goal.  Julian Barba, Frankie Martingale, Ramsey Little, Justin Behnke, Jun Harrigan and Brian Kelly were tremendous in defense allowing only 4 goals in 5 games.

 HIGHLIGHTS:

 It was a first for the Azzurri team, winning a tournament without giving up a goal.  The team came together very quickly with the new additions to the 2011 Fall team having a huge impact on the success.  The defense was led by goalkeepers Thomas Sullivan and Antonio Green and the defenders were anchored by Julian Barba, with great help from newcomers Frankie Martingale, Ramsey Little and Justin Behnke.
