Playoffs: Round 2, Nov. 7–8, 2015

Canton Lions Varsity

The Lions varsity squad dropped a 21-0 decision to the Dearborn Heights Redskins in the second round of playoffs, Nov. 7 at Belleville High School.

The varsity Lions defense hung tough throughout the matchup, including fumble recoveries by Ivan Davis and Spenser Korroch.

Korroch led the defense with 13 tackles, while Davis, Lucas Holden, Jerome Nichols, Ezell Snipes and Cameron Wallace all contributed with multiple tackles. Daylin Banks, Sean Britt, Gabe Fisher, Jeremy Fuchs, Seth Humm, Daniel Martin and Cameron Wilborn rounded out the strong defense.

Special teams standouts were Davis and Wilborn, both with 20-yard kickoff returns.

The Lions varsity squad finished with a 6-4 record in the Western Suburban Junior Football League, losing to only two teams during their 2015 season play.

Canton Lions Junior Varsity

The Canton Lions junior varsity team faced the Dearborn Redskins in the second round of playoffs Nov. 8 at Wayne Memorial High School. Despite a hard-fought battle, the Lions fell to the Redskins 20–6.

Lions highlights included Ethan Bennett's block of an extra-point attempt and a touchdown pass from Preston Long to Bennett.

The Lions finished their season with a 7–3 record, placing third in the WSJFL.

Canton Lions Freshmen

The freshmen Lions defeated the Dearborn Heights Redskins, 27–6, in round two of playoffs, Nov. 7 at Belleville High School. This win continues the Lions undefeated season and earns them a spot in the WSJFL Super Bowl.

In the opening drive, a series of tackles by Aaron Alexander kept the Redskins from a first down. The Lions also converted a turnover into a touchdown by Caleb Williams, with Alexander carrying in the extra point.

Josiah West scored next for the Lions, with Luke Matusik running in the extra point. And before the first half was over, the Lions put seven more points on the board with a 52-yard touchdown run by Alexander and an extra-point pass completion from Avery Satterlee to Diego Hernandez-Ramirez.

The Lions defense held the Redskins scoreless in the first half with tackles by Alexander, Hernandez-Ramirez, Satterlee and Alex Witt.

The Redskins reached the end zone in the second half, but the Lions answered back with yet another Alexander touchdown.
